In May 2004, a 21-year-old Julliard drama student was reported missing. Sarah Fox was last seen leaving her Inwood apartment to go jogging; a few days later, her body was found in Inwood Park, surrounded by tulip petals. The police never arrested anyone for the murder, but now the prime suspect is back in NYC—and he says he has information about the killing because he's clairvoyant.
Dimitry Sheinman, 47, claims that he will turn over the name of the killer—which came to him in a "psychic vision—at the 34th Precinct tomorrow. Sheinman has been living in South Africa for the past five years, but came back to NYC last weekend. The Daily News reports, "He had been carrying around a sealed envelope containing the name of the purported killer, which came to his consciousness in white letters above a black background, he said."
Back in 2004, the Post reminds us that Sheinman apparently gave details about the case that weren't public knowledge—like how "Fox had suffered a broken rib and that a stick had been placed between the victim’s legs"—and that he was known to have confrontations with runners but he was never charged.
Last week, Sheinman said he wanted the police to "contact me and meet me at some nice cafe, sit down, and I'll give them the envelope." To which NYPD spokesman Paul Browne said, "Presumably, if you want to help solve a murder you don't set parameters such as, 'You come to me.'" So now Sheinman will go to the cops—but he'll have a press availability before going into the precinct. Sheinman told DNAinfo, "I hope the police take this seriously. There is a difference between clairvoyants and crazy people."
