Because temperatures are expected to be in the 90s today and tomorrow, the city is opening its cooling centers (find them here; here are some tips on beating the heat). Last week, during the heat wave, the NY Times' Ariel Kaminer visited one of the centers, which seem to be populated by regulars and not many people just looking for an air-conditioned sanctuary. And it's questionable whether those most in need—the poor, disabled and elderly—can get to them easily.
