Residents of City Island, a wee outpost off the coast of the Bronx known for its New England-style architecture and fried seafood, were rattled yesterday upon learning of the arrest of a the local barber, who was selling drugs—possibly to teenagers—out of his storefront.

Aleksandr Mullokandov, who, The Post notes, was something of a local celebrity for taking "a badly beaten rooster into his care" last summer, was arrested inside of his shop on charges of criminal use of drug paraphernalia, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of marijuana, which an unnamed source claims Mullokandov was selling to local teenagers. The police said they had been monitoring the shop for "some time" prior to making the arrest.

Residents were shocked at the arrest, saying they never had any reason to be suspicious of Mullokandov. "My sons have gotten their hair cuts there before and we all thought he was a pretty nice guy. We had no clue, but that just means the 45th Precinct did a great job. We needed a wake-up call like this on City Island,” said resident Peter Green. In 2009, the Island was similarly shaken by a prostitution sting and more drug-sale rumors.
