QR codes on building permits are apparently only the beginning! If the program to affix the codes on all Department of Building permits is a success the square barcodes may soon start popping up all over the place, most notably on the grades posted outside of restaurants. "The Health Department is exploring the possibility of putting bar codes on restaurant letter grades that would take consumers directly to a restaurant's latest [inspection] results," a DoH spokeswoman told the Daily News.
And that isn't the only place that the city is thinking of slapping them. Department of Sanitation vehicles already have QR codes (they take you to information about recycling) and there is one on the Staten Island ferry that takes you to a 26 minute video on attractions in the city. Other places codes are being considered for are the city's many statues and tourist attractions, where the codes can bring the curious to more information about the artwork and buildings (and their creators).
"This is just the beginning," the mayor said yesterday. "Once you get this to work, there's an awful lot of things and we're committed to do that." Interesting!
If you could put QR codes linked up to city information anywhere in the city, where would you want them? We'd love to see QR codes in taxis that could quickly take us to the correct places to commend or complain about a driver.
