The "Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge" may be one step closer to reality, as the Daily News reports that a City Council hearing on the renaming "nearly doubled as a pep rally." However, it seems that Queens pols are divided on the issue: Peter Vallone Jr. has been outspoken against the renaming, saying that the city would never dream of renaming the Brooklyn Bridge. But former Queens Borough President Claire Shulman said "Mayor Koch is bold, tough, effective, charming and he stands firm, each and every day. The same can be said for our bridge."

The City Council vote on the renaming will take place in the next few weeks, and Queens residents are also divided on the issue. Vito Leanza told ABC 7, "It doesn't matter. The man made an impact on this city years ago." However, one Astoria resident told us, "What's the point of renaming it when no one calls it by the right name anyway? I haven't heard the Triboro bridge called the 'RFK' once out loud." And what about the Malcolm Wilson Bridge?
