The QueensWay, similar in concept to the High Line but in, you know, Queens, took one small step closer to realization today with the release of new renderings for the above-ground park.
The sketches for the scenic new walkway and bike path, which would encompass a 3.5 mile stretch of the abandoned Rockaway rail line between Ozone and Rego parks, were released by Friends of QueensWay ahead of next week's community workshop, DNAinfo reports.

The two images offer only a glimpse of the many divergent portions of the park, more of which will be revealed at next week's meeting, Andrew Crawford, a Friends of QueensWay member told the news site. Or as she put it: "This is just a sample of the really wondrous visioning that's going into this and how it's really going to work for the entire community."
The renderings stand in opposition to reports from last December that many residents would prefer the reactivation of the defunct railroad, which connected central Queens to central Brooklyn, a dream that was ultimately deemed unattainable. "Past studies have shown conclusively that rail reactivation is not feasible for cost, environmental and logistical reasons," a representative with the group told us at the time.
The workshops will be held on Monday, March 24, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Metropolitan Expeditionary Learning School, located at 91-30 Metropolitan Avenue, and on Wednesday, March 26 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the High School for Construction Trades, Architecture and Engineering, located at 94-06 104th Street.
