With record breaking heat broiling the city, The Summer Of The Groper continued today: police arrested a suspect who allegedly groped a female jogger in Central Park early this morning. And authorities are now trying to establish whether 26-year-old Eusebio Molina is the Upper East Side serial groper...or if he's just a copycat!
The 41-year-old woman told police that a man had grabbed her butt as she jogged past him north on East Drive near 77th Street around 5:40 a.m. She immediately flagged down police and made a report, and hours later, police tracked Molina, of the Bronx, down at 80th Street and East Drive. According to DNAInfo, he was identified by the woman, and has been charged with one count of sexual abuse.
Police sources told us that they were setting up a line-up to try to determine whether Molina is the same man as the UES groper who has been harassing women for the past seven months, attacking at least seven women during that period—two readers have recounted their close encounters with that serial groper, who police said is a 4-foot-11 Latino male between the ages of 25 and 30, with us.
But at least one other groper is no longer on the loose: police arrested a skateboarding groper near Columbia University yesterday afternoon, in what one reader described as a chaotic scene: "The cops tackled, tazed, maced and, after he threw a punch at a cop, wrapped him in this crazy body bag thing." An officer from the 26th precinct confirmed the arrest, but thus far, police have not released any other information about the suspect, the groping incidents, or his arrest.
