After turning herself in yesterday 44-year-old Ann Pettway—the woman accused of kidnapping Carlina White 23 years ago—is heading to Manhattan Federal court today where she is expected to finally face federal charges for the case. Though a manhunt started Saturday for Pettway after she was spotted in a pawn shop, Pettway actually ended up turned herself into the feds after seeing herself on television.

Meanwhile, the Post has been digging into Pettway's life and has some more information to further the theory that White was kidnapped to make up for a miscarried baby. According to a cousin "at the time, she was dating a big-time drug dealer, which, back then, it was a status thing to date someone like that in this neighborhood. What I think happened was, she lost her child and got [White] as a means of holding onto this guy." Also, the Pettway clan in Bridgeport, Connecticut, was apparently somewhat famous for being bad. "They were everywhere, and they ran the crack and coke trade on Stratford Avenue in the '80s and the '90s," a retired police sargeant told the paper, referring to a notoriously seedy strip.

Pettway is expected to appear in court later this afternoon.
