Bushwick might be the city's newest most overhypedoverpriced neighborhood, but it's also apparently the best place to speed. Or at least it was in 2012, when officers handed out a grand total of eight speeding tickets: for comparison's sake, in Greenpoint they handed out a whopping 555.

The NYPD handed out 2,873 speeding tickets in Brooklyn last year: Greenpoint, the 94th precinct got issued the most tickets, with Sheepshead Bay following at 198 and Bensonhurst at 182. But Bushwick's 83rd precinct received by far the least speeding tickets, with East Flatbush coming in second least at 45. And don't think that means nobody's doing 80 m.p.h. down Flushing Ave at 9 p.m.: "People speed," Fausto Rodriguez, who works in the area, told the Daily News. "But you're not going to notice enforcement here because the precinct doesn't have the resources or the manpower."

And far fewer drivers were ticketed for speeding than, say, talking on a cell phone (43,920 tickets issued) or driving with tinted windows (28,815). Local politicians say this is a sign that law enforcement officials in Brooklyn don't know how to deal with speeding. "This data shows that Brooklyn needs more resources and clearer enforcement goals to deal effectively with dangerous drivers," state Senator Eric Adams said. "Until these speedsters know that they'll be caught and harshly prosecuted for their reckless behavior, they will continue to put lives at risk on our streets day-in and day-out." In 2012, Brooklyn also had the most pedestrian and cyclist fatalities, with 48 deaths and 5,377 injuries. And this year to date, 2 speeding tickets have been issued in Bushwick, and 84 have been issued in Greepoint.
