An MTA bus driver hit over a dozen parked cars and injured at least five people last night when he suffered an apparent stroke while driving in Greenpoint, according to authorities.
The unidentified driver reportedly lost control around 7:30 p.m. while operating a B48 bus at Nassau Avenue and Sutton Street. Officials say he damaged nearly 20 parked cars, sideswiping vehicles and slamming into a pickup truck that was crossing at Kingsland Avenue; witnesses say the driver of that car was injured. "It was horrible to watch,” Sandy Reilly, whose car was damaged in the incident, told the Post. “The bus was out of control."
After plowing through cars for over a block, authorities say the bus finally came to a stop at Sutton Street and passengers were able to disembark. "A guy started kicking in the bus doors. They got everyone off, everyone seemed fine," Henrik Toncic, who works at a nearby pizza store, told NBC News. "But the bus driver was passed out to the side."
Cops say the driver and five other individuals were taken to Woodhull Hospital in serious condition. They are all expected to survive.
