The eagerly-awaited Brooklyn Bridge Park project will have something for everybody—even drinkers. The $350 million waterfront greenspace won't just include lawns, playgrounds, rope swings, water access, and climbing structures. It will also feature a wine bar.
The Brooklyn Paper reports that park planners want to construct a wine bar with sweeping views of the waterfront on Pier 1 near the foot of Old Fulton Street. "We're looking for concessions that cater to everyone—and one of the biggest questions we got during the design phase was, 'Where can I drink publicly in your park?'" said David Lowin, a vice president of the Brooklyn Bridge Park Development Corporation. "Of course, it would be cordoned off so that drinking only takes place in one spot."
The greenspace—which is planned to stretch from DUMBO to Atlantic Avenue—will also feature other food-related concessions including a proposed restaurant with roof access. The planned wine bar is welcomed news for the city's drinkers, who are often told they can't imbibe outdoors. But the wine bar shouldn't come as much of a surprise, considering that Mayor Bloomberg—a man known to enjoy drinking wine in parks—just took control of Brooklyn Bridge Park.
