Yesterday Brooklyn Bridge Park was under attack after the metal orbs designed for their play area got so hot (128 degrees!) they were scorching skin. The park promptly put tents over them, which only solved the problem until the sun shifted. Now parents want the evil orbs ripped out, declaring they're not just hot, but dangerous.
Last month 5-year-old Kira Foley broke her nose and lost a tooth while playing on the metal structures; her father told the Daily News (who has a photo of the injury): "They look innocuous, but they're really dangerous." The park's insurance company told him how to file a claim, but he says he's not looking for monetary compensation, he just wants the orbs outta there. Assemblyman Micah Kellner (D-Manhattan) agrees, saying the option is "better than [having] a child who is horribly scarred or injured."
One local babysitter's suggestion? "They should put in something like a jungle gym. Remember those?" Yeah, those large metal things... perfectly safe.
