And after two years, we've got ourselves another solid daycare/drug den story. Yesterday the DEA recovered 122,000 illegal pills including Ecstasy, Percocet, Viagra and Xanax from four locations in the Bronx as part of a drugs-through-the-mail scheme. And, oh yeah, one of those locations was a home that also served as a day care center. After all, an important life lesson for tots is knowing your E from your Xanax.
According to the complaint, Ingrid Navedo, 44, had “several thousand pills” in a closet “several feet away” from kid's toys and furniture in a part of her home that doubled as a day care center. "As alleged, these six defendants operated a veritable pill mill," Preet Bharara, the United States attorney for the Southern District of New York, said of the accused. "The charged conduct was especially dangerous, as the defendants potentially victimized young children whose unsuspecting parents sent them to a day care center that allegedly doubled as a warehouse for thousands of their illegal pills."
Six people including Navedo were charged with scheming to sell the drugs in response to orders placed by mail, phone and the Internet. The feds say the ring has been selling since at least last October and was busted after a DEA informant successfully bought 400 Percocet pills for $4,800 in cash.
