The police arrested 24-year-old Jermaine Ruiz for the murders of his 22-year-old girlfriend and her two children. After receiving a tip, cops found Ruiz in an East Flatbush apartment yesterday, covered in blood and apparently preparing to get rid of the bodies.
According to the Daily News, Ruiz "went on a rampage," killing Jessica Ybe and her five- and two-year-old daughters "in a stabbing frenzy that left blood dripping into the apartment below." A neighbor said that Ruiz allegedly asked the super where he could find a Dumpster to dispose of something "heavy" that "will smell." Neighbors also say that the couple were fighting on Wednesday—with one saying, "He was just screaming at her. He looked crazy"—and police believe the murders occurred late Wednesday or Thursday.
Yesterday, Ruiz, who had 7-month-old twins with Ybe (the babies have been with Ruiz's mother), had called his father and told him about the killings; his father then went to the police. Police found Ybe's body partially in a plastic bag, while the children's bodies were wrapped in a carpet. Police spokesman Paul Browne said that Ruiz implicated himself in the killings and that the murder weapon, a knife, had not been found; Browne added, "There was a lot of blood in the apartment. It was in complete disarray."
