Campaign consultant Howard Wolfson once called Mayor Bloomberg "out of touch," but now the sweater-clad, indie rock loving ex-Clinton strategist is ready to join the administration, sources say. Wolfson—who worked on Bloomberg's reelection campaign in 2009—will now take a $300,000 pay-cut to leave national politics and come serve the city he grew up in.
Currently Wolfson splits his time between NY and DC, but he'll leave his gig as a campaign-strategist-for-hire with the Glover Park Group to work full time as "counselor to the mayor." From what anonymous sources told the NY Times, it sounds like he'll be a PR guy, a public figure focusing on "communications and policy." The announcement that Bloomberg is hiring a big-deal consultant—scheduled for today—is also sure to feed rumors that he has presidential ambitions.
When Wolfson isn't advising national politicians he loves blogging about music (he hasn't posted since last March, OK; he's been busy) and wearing garish sweaters on national TV—one lucky one in particular. During Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign he was both a close adviser and a public face frequently seen on major network and Cable news outlets. He's also been honored by Planned Parenthood for his work on reproductive rights.
