After calling for ideas on what to wager with Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl on Sunday's AFC Championship game between the Jets and the Steelers, Mayor Bloomberg revealed what the bet would be today. Drum roll please: "The losing mayor will, while wearing the jersey of the winning team, take part in a volunteer service project to assemble care packages to be sent to members of the armed services who are from the winning city and recently have returned home." In addition, if the Steelers win, Mayor Bloomberg will hang a Steelers “Terrible Towel” on a New York City landmark and if the Jets win, Mayor Ravenstahl will place a Jets Fireman hat on a Pittsburgh landmark.
It's not quite what we had in mind ("jets win, pittsburgh has to pay edwards' court fees. steelers win, new york has to pay roethlisberger's court fees."), but it'll do. If the Steelers win, Mayor Ravenstahl had suggested that we hang a "Terrible Towel" from the Statue of Liberty. He also talked a little trash of his own, telling Steelers fans at a rally, "We are the champions and we are going back to the Super Bowl where we belong...I'll make a prediction: The Jets won't score an offensive touchdown." Well here's our prediction: whatever the outcome of the game, someone will accuse Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger of sexual assault again. Oh, and Bart Scott will say something wonderful.
