Representative Peter King, the Long Island Republican who's been criticized for holding hearings on Muslim "radicalization," was sent a little care package via the U.S. Postal Service yesterday: a bloody pig's foot and a note with "anti-Semitic ramblings." Sources tell NBC that Capitol police are investigating, but it appears the sender mistakenly believed that King, a Roman Catholic, is Jewish. Orthodox Jews, of course, don't dig on swine, but King's religion has no such restrictions. Unfortunately, the delicious trotter was intercepted before it could get to King's office.

“Somewhere in the message it says ‘all the babies in America will be named Mohammed,’” a source tells Politico. "I guess you have to interpret it as a threat. It’s certainly not a sign of affection." The letter also says “kiss my black Muslim ass.” Reached for comment, King told Politico, "Any time you get involved in any controversial issue, there’s always going to be extremes that react."

CBS reports that the parcel was intercepted at the Congressional mail facility in Landover, Maryland, where mail sent to lawmakers is screened for security risks. Ibrahim Hooper, National Communications Director for the Council on American-Islamic Relations and a target of King's hearings tells CBS that he can relate, because his group regularly "receives pig-themed hate messages, including letters smeared with bacon." Mmmmm, hate mail.
