The squeeze is on! What squeeze? Well, the low that gave the city snow earlier in the week has gotten stuck over the Canadian Maritimes. Meanwhile, high pressure is slowly arriving from the west. New York and New England will be stuck in the middle as the high tries to displace the low. The big squeeze is going to make for a breezy weekend. Look for a windy day today and tomorrow with highs both days in the lower 40s. The sun may make make itself known this afternoon, but it will definitely be around all day tomorrow.

More sun and diminishing winds are expected on Sunday. Look again for a seasonable high in the lower 40s. Clouds return on Monday ahead of another winter storm. It's too early to tell with any confidence how potent this storm will be so let's weasel out and say there's a chance of rain or snow beginning Monday night.

All these coastal storms this winter are a classic symptom of El Niño. The equatorial Pacific has seen anomalously warm waters for a couple of months now. The warm water is an extra heat source for the atmosphere, which responds by altering how it circulates. Around these parts it means a greater frequency of storms forming along the Gulf Coast of Texas that eventually travel up the East Coast. It appears that this particular El Niño is peaking but its weather effects will be felt for another few months.
