Because of an enrollment drop, the NY Archdiocese has slated 27 Catholic schools for closure, with 13 of them expected to be closed by the end of the school year (list). The organization is reportedly calling it the 'Pathways to Excellence' plan, but one teacher told the Daily News, "[The archdiocese officials] really don't look at the school or the children. I think it's just a heartless call." It's unclear where the 3,652 displaced children will go to school, but Archbishop Timothy Dolan said there will be counselors to help students transition to other schools.
