A Queens man was offering a fantastic deal: three adjacent commercial buildings in midtown Manhattan for $6.5 million. And the seller's agent only asked for a down payment of $1.66 million! Steal of the century! What could possibly go wrong?
Well, it would have helped if the agent actually represented the owner of the buildings, for one. The agent, Kook Hee Nam, was charged yesterday with first-degree grand larceny, forgery and identity theft in connection with the real estate fraud. Nam, also known as David Nam, pocketed the down payment for the four-story structures at Seventh Avenue, between 30th and 31st Streets, from buyer Jae Kun Jeung. Next time, Nam might want to aim a little more modestly with his con, and he could get away with it at least eight times. That is if he isn't jailed for the next 25 years.
