If you were planning to do any borough-hopping this Saturday and Sunday, well, maybe stick with that nice brunch place on your corner instead. The MTA will be performing track work on almost every subway line this weekend, and some transit changes might be a real pain in the neck (looking at you, J train). Behold:
The 1 train won't be running south of 14th street this weekend, thanks to maintenance work at Cortlandt St. It'll also be swapping service with the 2, 3 line, running express between 34th and 14th Sts. in both directions all weekend, and between 96th and 145th St on the uptown track from 5:45 a.m. to 7 p.m on Saturday and Sunday.
The 4 will be running express between 14th Street-Union Square and Grand Central-42nd Street on the uptown track overnight on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and downtown trains will be skipping 138th Street-Grand Concourse all weekend. The 5 won't be running in either direction between East 180th Street and Bowling Green from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, and the 6 will be running express on the uptown track from 14th Street-Union Square to Grand Central-42nd Street all weekend.
The 7 train has rebounded from its 13 weekends of hell, but it won't be running between Flushing-Main Street and Mets-Willets Point this weekend.
The A and C trains won't be running between 168th Street and 207th Street, since the175th Street station's getting a new coat of paint. The E will be running express from Queens Plaza to Roosevelt Avenue overnight on the Jamaica Center-bound track, and express between Forest Hills-71st Avenue and Roosevelt Avenue on the Manhattan-bound track overnight.
Downtown F trains are being rerouted to the M line all the way from 36th Street in Queens to 47th-50th Sts in Manhattan. And both the F and G will still skip Smith-9th Streets until the station opens up later this month.
There is NO J train between Brooklyn and Manhattan this weekend. The J runs between Jamaica Center and Hewes Street and between Essex Street and Chambers Street, with trains running every 15 minutes between the latter. The M skips Central Ave through August 2013.
Queens-bound N trains and R trains will run along the Q track from DeKalb Avenue to Canal Street overnight Friday-Monday, and Coney Island-bound N trains will run along the D track from 36th Street to Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue all weekend. Manhattan-bound N and R trains will skip Jay Street-MetroTech, Court Street, Whitehall Street, Rector Street, Cortlandt Street and City Hall. Manhattan-bound R trains will also run express from Forest Hills-71st Avenue to Roosevelt Avenue overnight Saturday and Sunday, and Queens-bound R trains run express from Queens Plaza to Roosevelt Avenue. And The Franklin Ave S shuttle will be suspended all weekend due to track work between Park Place and Franklin Avenue.
The MTA says the track changes are all part of the system's ongoing capital construction work, and that they'll be providing free shuttle buses along some of the more inconvenienced lines. And luckily, a few lines, like the L and G trains, will be relatively unscathed...this time. Happy travels!
