On Tuesday, actor Michael McKean was walking on Broadway and West 86th Street when a car struck him, breaking one of his legs and leaving him with other injuries. McKean had surgery this morning and his wife, actress Annettte O'Toole, just Tweeted, "Surgery went great. He took 4 steps just now. Sitting in chair. Very good attitude. Sends his love."

McKean looked badly injured, based on a photograph from the scene (the Daily News also had photos of a mail box that was knocked down, as well as a trash can). However, he Tweeted yesterday, "Lucky man: best wife, great kids, awesome docs and nurses, priceless friends; a little overwhelmed by the sweet tweets. Love all y'all."

The 64-year-old actor is now missing his role in The Best Man on Broadway; producer Jeffrey Richards told the Post that McKean seemed to be in good spirits, with McKean joking, "We always tell each other to break a leg in this business. I never thought it would happen to me this way!"

No criminality was suspected in the incident (three passengers in the car were also injured), but nearby workers and residents complained that the intersection was dangerous, with cars ignoring traffic lights.
