David “DJ” Johnson the former Paterson aide and close buddy at the center of a domestic abuse scandal, says he’s not about to end his career in politics. "I continue to work hard for my area," he told NBC news. "And I want to continue to do that. So that is what I hope after the vindication that I can just go back to work as a public servant for the people of New York City and New York State." (Video after the break.) Still, before he gets back into City Hall, he has a few hurdles to clear.
Johnson is currently under investigation for an incident in which an ex-girlfriend was contacted several times by state troopers and Paterson helpers after she reported abuse by his hands. Still he hopes the public will “keep an open mind” and his lawyer says the abuse allegations have been exaggerated. "The most important thing to remember is that criminal charges were never brought in this [domestic violence] case," Oscar Michelen said. "Even thought the police did come to the apartment that night—after they spoke to the complainant—seeing no evidence of a crime they did not arrest or attempt to arrest Mr. Johnson."
