After six seasons, the Giants parted ways with running back Brandon Jacobs this off-season—it was partly due to Jacobs unhappiness with his role as backup RB, and partly due to the Giants' unwillingness to pay him $5 million to be a backup. Jacobs ended up signing with the San Francisco 49ers—but one adorable six-year-old did everything he could to get Jacobs to stay, including sending him the contents of his piggybank: $3.36.
His mother wrote Jacobs the above letter, which reads:
Dear Mr. Jacobs,
My 6-year-old son, Joseph, is a huge NY Giants fan. Last year he had the opportunity to go to a game, and he just fell in love with the team. He was very sad to learn that both you and Mario Manningham are no longer with the team. When he asked me why you were going to SF I explained that the Giants did not have enough money to keep you. So, in an effort to convince you to return to NY he wrote you the enclosed letter, and included money for you from his piggy bank.
Joseph is just learning to read/write so I will help you by translating his letter:
"Dear Brandon Jacobs,
So you could go to the Giants, here is my money.
Love, Joe"
Jacobs tweeted the letter, and sounded moved by it: "The kid thought the giants didn't have enough money to bring me back, so he sent me 3.36 cent to come back it was the best ever." He added: "I almost cried, I am still trying to hold it in. I may have to pay him a surprise visit." He followed that up by saying he was thinking of taking his five-year-old son and Joe to Chucky Cheese in NJ (and he promised to post pics when it happens).
