The body of Myls Dobson, the 4-year-old who tragically died last week after allegedly being abused by his caretaker, has yet to be claimed at the morgue, and his parents are reportedly battling over its custody.
Myls died exactly one week ago in a Midtown apartment while in the care of his father's girlfriend, 27-year-old Kryzie King; King allegedly confessed to brutally beating and starving Myls in the weeks leading up to his death, and was arraigned last week on assault and reckless endangerment charges.
Myls' body is still unclaimed. His father, 37-year-old Okee Wade is behind bars in New Jersey and has been petitioning for release so he can bury his son; mother Ashlee Dobson, 29, says she and her family will collect Myls' body today. "We’re picking up the baby. We’re claiming him,” a Dobson family spokesman told the Daily News. Dobson lost custody of Myls in 2011, and though she reportedly claims it was because Wade had more money than her, court officials say there were "very serious concerns about the ability of Myls' mother to care for him" at the time; witnesses say Dobson regularly abused her son.
A funeral for Myls has been planned at the First Corinthian Baptist Church in Harlem, though no date has been set. Meanwhile, state lawmakers are proposing a “Myls’ Law" that would require authorities to notify child service agencies when a parent is arrested; Myls was left in King's care after Wade was arrested on an outstanding bank fraud warrant on December 18th.
