May is turning out to be the climate comeback kid. As recently as Tuesday the month was running more than half a degree cooler than normal. Another 90-degree day today will push the month to nearly half a degree warmer than normal. Yesterday was the first time since September 1st that the temperature reached 90 in Central Park. Today will be a little hotter and a little more humid.

The Bermuda High bringing the summer weather will still be here tomorrow but it may face stiff competition from a strong sea breeze. That makes forecasting tomorrow's high temperature a little tricky so let's go with mid to upper 80s. A slow-moving Midwestern cold front will begin to affect our weather on Sunday. You don't need to be a forecasting genius to know that a cold front running into a hot, humid air mass means showers and thunderstorms. The showers could pop up as early as Sunday afternoon but are more likely on Sunday evening and into Monday. Sunday's high is expected to reach the lower 80s and we should be back down to more seasonable temperatures next week.

Tomorrow is June 1st, the first official day of hurricane season. NOAA's Climate Prediction Center is forecasting an "active or extremely active season this year" for Atlantic hurricanes, as is AccuWeather and pretty much everybody else who makes these sorts of predictions. This week has been National Hurricane Preparedness Week which boils down to three points: Pay attention, have a plan, and take action if need be.
