Just in time for Mother's Day, a depressing granny attack story. Everybody say hello to 80-year-old Marie Casimir, who tells the Daily News that a mugger ripped a gold chain right off her neck in Chelsea on Wednesday morning—before shoving her to the wet ground. Still, before you start wondering why nobody helped her, at least feel better knowing that they tried!
According to the News, a bystander actually chased down the heartless perp, "But the bandit — described as a black man in his 20s, about 5-foot-11 and wearing a black and yellow jacket — pulled out a knife and scared the good Samaritan away before fleeing, cops said." Sigh.
According to Casimir the chain on her neck was "a birthday gift from my son many, many years ago," that she guessed was worth about $1,000. After the incident Casimir was taken to Beth Israel Hospital—where she was trying to visit a friend that morning anyway!—and was treated for minor injuries including lacerations to her neck.
There is much talk these days about a special level of punishment for cops who use their badges dishonorably, but for what it is worth, those who attack the elderly somehow manage to make our blood boil just as much.
