The city medical examiner’s office on Wednesday was looking into the death of a 4-year-old boy who was discovered unresponsive at a family homeless shelter in Brooklyn, according to police.

NYPD officers responded to a 911 call from the facility on Glenwood Road in East Flatbush around 8 a.m. Tuesday and found the boy having a medical episode, police said. He was rushed to Maimonides Hospital in critical condition and was later pronounced dead.

NYPD officials said they were still awaiting word on the boy’s cause of death from the medical examiner’s office, which did not immediately respond to an inquiry Wednesday. They could not say whether any criminality was yet suspected.

Nolan Lyons, a spokesperson for Win, the nonprofit that runs the shelter, confirmed the death in a statement.

“Win is devastated by the tragic death of this innocent child who came to reside with us in one of our shelters,” he said. “We are working closely with the NYPD to support their ongoing investigation. We remain committed as ever to fostering a safe and supportive environment for all families that call a Win shelter home.”

Police did not announce any immediate arrests, and the boy had not been publicly identified by Wednesday morning.
