Police said they’re looking for two people after one of them shot at NYPD officers in Westchester County early Friday, leading the two officers to return fire before the suspects escaped.

No one was injured in the shootout, which happened in a residential area near 29 Pearl St. in Mount Vernon at around 5:45 a.m., according to department officials.

Police said the officers were cutting through the town just north of the Bronx, on their way back to their command base, when they spotted two people matching the descriptions of suspects in an armed gas station robbery.

One of the people fired about four or five shots at the officers, according to officials. Authorities said the officers returned fire, but no one was hit and it was unclear how many shots the officersy fired.

Police initially described the incident saying both individuals had fired at officers, but later clarified that only one had.

The suspects fled into a backyard and nearby MTA lot, dropping a gun as they ran, police said. Following the shooting, Metro-North Railroad temporarily suspended New Haven Line service between the Mount Vernon East and Fordham stations, citing “police activity.”

NYPD officials said that Mt. Vernon police have taken control of the crime scene and are investigating. The Mount Vernon Police Department did not immediately return calls for comment Friday.
