Two Bronx residents were arrested and charged with murder over the weekend in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 30-year-old woman that stemmed from a fight with one of her neighbors, police said.
Beyonce Johnson, 24, and Saleh Ceesay, 21, each face murder and manslaughter charges in the death of Highbridge resident Shashamanie Thompson, according to the NYPD. Police said Johnson and Thompson lived in the same building on Ogden Avenue near West 167th Street and had been in a dispute, though authorities did not specify what it was about.
Officers responded to a 911 call for an assault inside the building around 10 p.m. Saturday, police said. They found Thompson unconscious in a hallway with stab wounds to her face and abdomen, authorities said.
Emergency medical workers transported her to Lincoln Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Johnson and Ceesay were taken into custody at the scene less than an hour later, police said. They were both also charged with manslaughter.
The defendants’ attorney information was not immediately available early Monday. Officials said Ceesay lives in Mott Haven.
Thompson’s killing comes as homicides in the NYPD’s 44th Precinct, which includes Highbridge and Concourse, have dropped significantly in 2025, according to official data. The precinct had recorded eight homicides as of Dec. 21 this year, compared to 16 by the same point last year, the data shows.
This is a developing story based on preliminary information from police and may be updated.
