An 18-year-old woman was found dead in a room at the Bryant Park Hotel this afternoon. An NYPD spokesperson says EMS responded to a 911 call to the upscale hotel, located at 40 West 40th Street, at approximately 12:30 p.m. The unidentified female was found unconscious and unresponsive, and EMS pronounced her dead on arrival. An investigation into the cause of death is underway.
One source tells the Post that the woman, a New Jersey resident, was found with a plastic bag over her head. "Her mother called the luxury hotel... to say her daughter was supposed to have checked out Monday, but that she hadn’t heard from her," the Post reports. Police sources tell the Daily News the death appears to be a suicide.
A representative of the hotel issued this statement: "The property is working closely with authorities on the investigation. There are no further details available beyond that. Our hearts and prayers are with the parents of the victim."
