A 10-year-old boy suffered a bruised leg after falling into an uncovered manhole in Brooklyn this morning. Making matters worse, the manhole was filled with water!
According to the Daily News, the boy "tumbled 20 feet into a city manhole near the near the intersection of 13th Ave. and 49th Street." A source tells WCBS 2 that police had just been called to the scene regarding a report about an open manhole, and were preparing to put cones up when the boy fell in.
Two Verizon workers happened to be nearby. Worker Mike Kroski said, "Me and my partner ran out, we saw the kid down there. He seemed okay, I personally think he was in shock.” Tom Prestia explained, "We put the ladder together, got the ladder down, we told the boy to start climbing up, and when he got to the top, me and my partner grabbed his jacket, pulled him out of the hole and the ambulance took over. I’m glad that the boy is OK."
The manhole is now secured.
