A man was killed and a dozen others were injured after a firetruck T-boned an ambulance in Brooklyn early Thursday morning.
The deadly crash happened just before 2 a.m. at the intersection of Myrtle and Throop Avenue in Bed-Stuy. According to a preliminary investigation, the FDNY firetruck driver was racing to a nearby fire when they slammed into the FDNY ambulance, which was carrying a 59-year-old heart attack patient and a 35-year-old family member to Woodhull Hospital.
Security camera footage of the crash, obtained by Williamsburg News, shows the collision.
The heart attack patient was taken from the back of the ambulance and transported by another EMS vehicle to Woodhull, where he was pronounced dead. The woman who accompanied him remains in critical condition.
Family members identified the deceased as Jamil Almansouri, the owner of a nearby bodega.
"I just I don't know what to do," Abdullah Ahmid, his brother, told ABC-7. "I was just with him earlier today. He was fine, went to the doctor about his sugar and they were saying everything was fine with him."
The woman accompanying him was said to be his sister.
An additional eleven people also suffered non-life threatening injuries in the collision, including six FDNY firefighters and two EMTs in the firetruck and ambulance, respectively. All eight city personnel were taken to Bellevue Hospital.
The occupants of a Honda CRV, which was struck by the ambulance while waiting at a traffic light at the time of the collision, were also hospitalized. Their injuries were not believed to be serious.
