The Yankees can’t wait to escape from California. They may have the dumbest name in baseball, but the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim can play baseball and on Saturday night they thumped the Yankees for the third straight game, this time winning 8-6.
The Yankees actually had a 3-1 lead in this game courtesy of an RBI single from Alex Rodriguez and back-to-back homeruns by Derek Jeter and Robinson Cano, but with Kevin Brown on the mound a two-run lead is never safe. Brown was shellacked for seven runs in just over three innings. Between Brown’s constantly injured back and his surly disposition, the Yankees and their fans cannot wait to be rid of him, but with their pitching problems, they will have keep using him every fifth day for the foreseeable future. One thing is for sure, with seven shopping days left until the trading deadline, Brian Cashman will be busy.
The Yankees have one more game in California, today at 4:05pm, with Mike Mussina looking to pitch the Yankees to a winning road trip. Then it’s back to the Stadium for six games against the Twins and the dreaded Angels starting Tuesday.
