- Mets 1, As 0: It may have taken three weeks, but the Mets have finally won a series in June. In dramatic fashion last night, the Mets defeated the A's on a 9th inning double by David Wright. It was also the first time the Mets have won back-to-back games in 22 games. Both starting pitchers pitched magnificently, with Joe Blanton pitching 8 innings of scoreless ball for the A's and Orlando Hernandez going 7 innings for the Mets.
The 9th inning started with Ramon Castro legging out a lead off double, something that wouldn't have happened without the ejection of staring catcher Paul Lo Duca in the 6th inning. Lo Duca argued a 0-1 strike that he thought was inside and was quickly ejected. Despite the ejection, Lo Duca remained on the field, arguing with home plate umpire Marvin Hudson while Willie Randolph attempted to shield Hudson from the fuming Lo Duca. On his way off the field, Lo Duca threw his helmet, bat, and batting gloves onto the field. Once off the field, he threw his catcher's gear onto the field as well.
After Castro's double, Carlos Beltran was given the intentional pass, bringing up David Wright. On a 1-1 pitch, Wright hit a soft ball to right field that would have been a single, but right fielder Travis Buck dove in an attempt to make the catch. Buck didn't come close. As the ball rolled past Buck, Castro easily scored from 2nd and the Mets had their series win.
- Giants 6, Yankees 5 (13 innings): The Yankees had their chances against the Giants. They had 17 hits, but left 16 runners on base. With the Yankees trailing by a run in the 9th, Alex Rodriguez tied the game with a home run, which sent the game to extra innings. In the 11th, the Yankees had the bases loaded with only 1 out, but were unable to plate any runs. In the 13th inning, Scott Proctor, who had already pitched 2 innings and was pitching in his 3rd straight game, allowed a single to Nate Schierholtz, scoring Ryan Klesko from 3rd. Things were so bad for the Yankees that Roger Clemens was warming up in the bullpen to start the next inning. The Yankees have lost 4 of 5 on their road trip.
- Cyclones 6, Renegades 2: The Cyclones are tied for first in the NY-Penn. League's McNamara Division. Today at Keyspan Park, they will reenact the final pitch at Ebbets Field. Before the first pitch, there will be 25-cent hot dogs as well.
- Ironbirds 2, Yankees 0: The Yankees gave the game away with 4 errors, two of which allowed the Ironbirds to score their first run in the 3rd inning.
