2006_04_smetslogo.jpg -Mets 8 Reds 3: Carlos Beltran became the first player in four years and the first Met since Robin Ventura to hit grand slams in consecutive games. Beltran’s blast broke open a 3-2 game and ensured Mike Pelfry of his second win. Xavier Nady and Jose Valentin also went deep for New York.

-Yankees 5 Seattle 4: Down 4-2 in the ninth, the Yankees benefited from a blown call at first and managed to tie the game before the rain halted things for two hours. Play resumed after midnight and Melky Cabrera led off the 11th inning with a home run to win it. The two teams play again today at 1pm.

-Staten Island 5 Williamsport 4: The Baby Bombers climbed back into first with the win. You can also check them out on YES tomorrow night.

-Oneonta 4 Brooklyn 2: The Cyclones’ winning streak ended at seven games.

-Islanders fire Neil Smith/Name Garth Snow GM: It’s hard to figure out what is going on on Long Island. Smith was hired June 8th and made some solid personnel moves and now he is gone and Garth Snow, the backup goalie, is now the GM. Furthermore, Pat LaFontaine has apparently tendered his resignation tonight. Talk about putting the “fun” in dysfunctional!

- Bruce Arena to become Red Bulls Coach: Yes, he was lousy in the 2006 World Cup, but don’t forget the great job he did in 2002. Hopefully, he sticks around longer than Alexi Lalas.
