Maybe this has escaped the notice of the Knicks’ management, but their team cannot play defense. Gilbert Arenas took advantage of New York’s defensive ineptitude last night, scoring 46 points in just three quarters of the Wizards 110-89 victory. To make matters worse, Stephon Marbury reinjured his shoulder during the first half and missed the rest of the game.
It’s too bad that Isiah Thomas is in Europe scouting players and therefore didn’t get to see this game. Once again, the Knicks quit and once again they let another team dominate them. Washington scored 71 points in the first half and probably would have won by 50 if they hadn’t cleared their bench for the fourth quarter.
The Knicks now have a plan and it involves using the current players on the roster to obtain Kevin Garnett or Jermaine O’Neal this summer. (Stop laughing) It amazes Gothamist that Jim Dolan hasn’t learned anything from watching his other team, the Rangers. Glen Sather spent recklessly for years, getting big name after big name only to see them fail. This year, constrained by the new NHL salary cap, the Rangers returned to basics and are the surprise of the NHL. It won’t be easy to fix this disaster, but stopping the profligate spending would be a good first step.
