While Gothamist Sports would like the 2012 Olympics in New York for pure athletic reasons, we're not blind to the how the Olympic bid might affect the city. One of the people leading the efforts against the Olympics is Brian Hatch. Hatch, the former deputy mayor of Salt Lake City (host of the 2002 Winter Olympics), started NewYorkGames.org to voice his opinions on the proposed Olympics.

Who better to have an opinion on the Olympic proposal than someone that went through the Olympic process with another city and is a transportation and municipal consultant by day. Hatch feels that the proposed stadium for the Jets, which would also be Olympic Stadium is too far from the Olympic Village. Additionally, he feels that the plan for the Olympics could harm the recovery of lower Manhattan.

Gothamist Sports is still pro-NYC2012 because we just want to see some world class sporting action. Controversy aside, that's what it's about for us. In the meantime, we're happy with fencing.
