2005_08_sdiaz.jpgMets fans are tired this morning, but they are happy. Four late nights watching the Mets play Arizona paid off as the Mets swept the four games and scored thirty-nine runs in the process. Thursday night the bats took a break, but the pitching was great in the Mets’ 3-1 victory.

Pedro Martinez was dominant again taking a no-hitter into the sixth inning and allowing only two hits. Carpenter and Clemens are the favorites to win the NL CY Young, but at 13-5 with a 2.77ERA, Pedro certainly deserves consideration. Victor Diaz was the offensive hero of the evening with a solo home run and a sacrifice fly. Diaz’s sacrifice fly was setup by aggressive baserunning by David Wright who went from first to third on a hard hit single with one out in the ninth.

The Mets are now only a game and a half in back of a wild card spot. They host the wild card leading Phillies next week at Shea, but must guard against a letdown this weekend when they play the woeful San Francisco Giants.
