The fine sandwich purveyors of Boerum Hill's Red Star Sandwich Shop were the latest victims of tip jar theft after an incident on Saturday evening. Shop owner Johnson Ho sent word via email today with details about the theft and photos of the ne'er-do-well who allegedly perpetrated the crime.

A man came in around 5:20 in the afternoon, asked us a few menu questions, and ordered nothing. When we turned our back for about 5 seconds, he grabbed the entire tip jar and put it in his jacket. We think there was about $30 in the jar. We noticed the jar was missing 5 minutes after he left, and at that point it was already too late.

Ho says he and the team are "shocked" by the thief's brazenness, especially since there are other customers in full view of the counter. Anyone with information about the incident should reach out to the restaurant.

This theft comes a little over a week after a pajama-clad man nabbed the tip jar at a Bath Beach bakery. Last summer, another man was caught on camera relieving a Hamilton Heights coffee shop of its tip jar.
