Hey, Latinos, have you heard? Cheerios knows their regular old Cheerios aren't caliente enough for you. That's why they've made an all-new dulche de leche flavored Cheerio. Other options included dipping the Cheerios in salsa, but cereal technicians eventually decided the chunky tomato-milk combo wouldn't stand.
"As the Hispanic population continues to grow in the U.S., so does the influence of Latin American flavors on American cuisine. With its Latin American roots and hint of caramel flavor, Dulce de Leche Cheerios brings this culinary trend to your family’s table while delivering the key health benefits you have come to expect from your trusted O's," explains the company in a press release for the new cereal, which is available nationwide.
Hey, it's not the first time they've added wacky flavors, but it does appear to be the first time an ethnic group has influenced the flavor decision. And, for what it's worth, early taste-testers are reporting the Latin Cheerios are "sickly sweet." Up next? We're hoping for soy-sauce spiked "O's" for the Asians and maybe some Marmite-laced cereal for those kooky Aussies.
