Now that Four Loko is back with a
weaker formula, the state is cracking down on bodegas selling the drinks to teens again. But Senator Jeff Klein has a brilliant idea that could change the Four Loko trade forever! In a bill introduced on Wednesday, Klein suggested making the drink, which is about 12 percent ABV, available only in liquor stores. Wow, why did no one think of that before!? Oh wait, we did.
Klein mentioned similar legislation in November, and said, "We have to do away with the new and improved Four Loko. Colorful cans, sweet flavors, and kids still have access to this stuff in bodegas, delis, and convenience stores." The bill would require all alcohol over six percent ABV and one percent sweet flavoring to be sold only in liquor stores. On Thursday the SLA busted 18 Bronx bodegas for selling the concoction to an underage auxiliary cop. But some bodegas don't even want the drink because they attract teens, and then you have to sell it to them! One owner said, "I wouldn't want to sell it. It's bad for the kids and it's bad for everybody." Those poor NYU kids may not have any way to get their kicks now other than stripping in the snow.
