Despite being the city's fast food chain least likely to harbor a rat infestation, White Castles are dying out in Brooklyn. Brownstoner brings word that the White Castle on Atlantic Avenue in Clinton Hill has shuttered, the plot having been slated for demolition by its corporate owners. The space closed up about two weeks ago and is now encircled by chain link fencing.
Late last year, two other White Castle locations closed up in the borough, including another in Clinton Hill and Williamsburg's much beloved outpost on Metropolitan. Both locations are scheduled to rise again as glistening new apartments; no plans have been revealed for the Atlantic Avenue spot.
That leaves only a few locations to grab up questionable sliders after a few too many shot-and-beer combos. There are four in Brooklyn, plus three in Queens and two in both Manhattan and Staten Island. White Castle's last stronghold appears to be in the Bronx, which still boasts five options for when the Chicken Ring cravings strike.
