Sure, you could go to a traditional sports bar to watch the Super Bowl, but that would just be so . . . traditional. We've rounded up a few more options for you -- find one to suit your mood.
For something a little less ordinary, try the Blind Tiger. Having cleared up their liquor license drama from early last year, they've been up and back in action for some time now. As for Super Bowl Sunday, they may not have tons of hi-def TVs, but they will be serving their wide selection of craft beers and, as an extra Super Bowl bonus, they will provide free kielbasa with all kinds of "football fixings." Join the festivities at 7:30p.m., Blind Tiger, 281 Bleecker Street.
If you're looking for something high end, try Blue Smoke's Big Game Blow-Out, a fundraiser for the TJ Martell Foundation for Leukemia, Cancer and AIDS research hosted by Kix Brooks, of country duo Brooks and Dunn. It's all you can eat and open bar starting at 4:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the following levels (prices include tax and gratuity): VIP $295 – Premier, reserved seating for the party and admission to a special after party performance by The Hitmen of Music Row with special guest, Kix Brooks live at Jazz Standard following the game; Gold $195 – Reserved table seating for the party during the game. Tickets are available online; space is limited. 116 East 27th Street.
Craving something other than chicken wings? Try Trestle on Tenth for crispy duck necks. That's right -- duck necks. They are braised until super tender, then rolled in bread crumbs, fried until golden, and served with a garlic and anchovy sauce. You can either eat them at the restaurant or order them to go from noon until 8 p.m. for $16 per dozen, and they can easily be reheated at home. 242 Tenth Avenue at 24th Street, 212-645-5659.
If you'd prefer to stick to the tried and true, both Maxie's Bar and Grill and Hudson River Cafe are having parties with some of the usual suspects -- nachos, sliders, wings, chili -- and a few other goodies.
At Maxie's, you need to pick your team you want to win the game, and for as long they are losing, all beers on tap are half price. 6:18 p.m., 233 Park Ave. S, entrance on E 19th St. btwn Park and Irving Place; call 212-979-7800 for advance reservations. At Hudson River Cafe, you can watch on their winterized patio. 5pm, 697 West 133 Street at 12th Avenue. 212-491-9111.
Williamsburg football fans looking to avoid the typical bar mayhem will find the comfy couches and four massive screens at Monkeytown hard to beat. The specialty cocktails and "Tailgater Special Menu" are another plus: Nachos with curried lamb, smoked baby back ribs and miso BBQ’d pork will be served along with the usual menu, which is meat-centric and stellar. Reservations strongly advised. 5:30pm, 58 North 3rd St. 718-384-1369
Going out? Where are you watching the game?
