It's been about two months since Popeyes sold out of chicken sandwiches nationwide; supplies that were supposed to last them through October ran out in just two weeks in August. People were truly pissed off at the time, especially the guy who sued Popeyes over it: "I can't get happy; I have this sandwich on my mind. I can't think straight... It just consumes you." But now, Popeyes has announced that they would begin selling the sandwiches once again starting this Sunday, November 3rd. In the immortal words of John Wick: "People keep asking if [chicken sandwiches are] back and I haven't really had an answer, but yeah, I'm thinking [chicken sandwiches are] back."
You can see the announcement video up above, which seems to exist mostly to troll their competitor Chick-fil-A—as Kanye West alluded to on his latest album, Chick-fil-A is closed on Sundays for dubious religious reasons, while Popeyes will re-launch their sandwich this Sunday for dubious capitalistic reasons.
Popeyes is confident that they won't run out this time. "We plan to offer it to our guests for a long time," Bruno Cardinali, head of marketing for North America at Popeyes, told CNN Business in an email. "We are confident that we'll be able to meet the demand." He added that Popeyes has stabilized its supply chain for the sandwich, which includes "a buttermilk battered and breaded white meat filet, topped with pickles and a choice of mayo or a spicy Cajun spread and served on a toasted brioche bun."
Popeyes franchise owners say they're more ready this time for the long lines and intense passion Americans apparently have for chicken sandwiches not made by discriminatory businesses. “We’re getting trained, ready and having the systems in place this time for everything,” Guillermo Perales, who owns 165 Popeyes franchises, told the Wall Street Journal. “We definitely weren’t ready last time.”
If you're wondering exactly what time the sandwich will be available, many of the Popeyes locations in Brooklyn open up at 10 a.m., which would be your earliest bet; other locations around the city open at 10:30 or 11 a.m. If you're looking for a great chicken sandwich that has nothing to do with a national chain and definitely would never serve you a fried rat, we would instead heartily recommend Nobody Told Me on the Upper West Side, or any of these 13 locally-made delicacies.
