[UPDATE BELOW] When Wreck Room closed back in 2014 after nearly a decade in Bushwick, it marked the end of an era. Gone were the days in which you could make out with an un-showered stranger atop a torn car seat, or require nasal surgery immediately upon entering a bathroom. Gone was a place in which it was acceptable to puke out rice balls on the floor... or set your shirt on fire.

Over the last ten years, Bushwick's become more expensive and Vogue-approved, and while there's obviously a much larger conversation about gentrification to be had, there is one tragedy here that is too great to ignore—Wreck Room's Flushing Avenue space will be filled by a sports bar that is horrifyingly called "Tiltz." This is their logo:

Bushwick Daily first reported on this sad story, noting that Tiltz will be a Dave & Buster's-esque "sports bar and arcade."

It was hard to say goodbye to Wreck Room, but it's harder still to fathom that those aforementioned STD-ridden car seats will soon be replaced by STD-ridden Donkey Kong. We checked in with former Gothamist editor and Wreck Room devotee Lauren Evans to get her take on the news. It seems like she's handling it well:

Losing Wreck Room was one of the worst things that's ever happened to New York City's bar-going community. While no establishment could ever instill in me the degree of terror I felt every time I entered the bathroom there, I'd certainly held out hope for something better than... this. Everyone involved should be ashamed of themselves for allowing this abomination to tarnish what was once a hallowed, disease-riddled space. Go to hell "Tiltz."

Tiltz will move in this fall, along with NYU's graduating class of 2020.

Update 5/11: Bushwick Daily now says that Tiltz is actually opening next door to the space Wreck Room formerly occupied, at 942 Flushing Avenue. Still, a sports bar called "Tiltz" is opening in Bushwick, so.
