The team behind perennial packed taco joint Tacombi are just a few weeks away from opening a new, bi-level restaurant and market space on West 24th Street in the Flatiron. In contrast to the relatively simple taco operation on Elizabeth Street, the large new enterprise will function as both a casual cafe to snap up a taco or two, as well as a market selling freshly made tortillas and Mexican products. The new venture is called Cafe el Presidente and it's already drawing comparisons to that other Flatiron market-restaurant hybrid of the Italian persuasion.

When the doors open on April 24th you'll find several dining options, including a taquiria that boasts the city's longest continues taco bar where diners order directly from the line cooks, the traditional way to order in Mexico, according to the publicist. Options will include crispy fish tacos, lobster tacos and al pastor tacos, according to DNAInfo, priced between $3 and $12 each. There's also a dedicated marisqueria—a seafood bar serving up catch from Montauk—and a Veracruz-style coffee bar where they'll serve their own brand of coffee called La Antigua.

Take-home items will include organic flour and corn tortillas made on site in flavors like Beetroot-Corn and Sweet Potato-Corn; a line of juices and sodas called Lupita; plus housemade salsa. Owners are also importing products from Villa de Patos, a company in Mexico that produces gourmet milks, cheeses and drinks and will also be offering locally-sourced meats and produce as a supplement.
