[Update below] Year-old Dough Loco, purveyor of wacky flavored doughnuts on the boarder of Spanish Harlem and the Upper East Side, has decided to open a second, larger location of their diminutive storefront on Park Avenue. Great news for everyone...except whoever left a threatening note through the shop's door the other day:

"Your little donut shop will never be able to compete with my Dunkin' Donuts franchise. Do you have any idea how connected I am? Tread carefully."

Dough Loco co-owners Michael Cesari and Corey Cova shared the scary note with Eater; it appears to have been written by a Dunkin' Donuts franchisee who the duo surmise owns the shop at 1391 Madison, the same intersection where the new Dough Loco will be popping up. A manager at the location said he "[doesn't] know anything about that" and referred us to Dunkin' Donuts corporate office.

Until the chain debuts a product as delicious as a Raspberry Sriracha yeast doughnut, we'll say Cova and crew have nothing to worry about. Probably.

Update: Gina Cesari, co-owner of Earl's Beer & Cheese and the new Dough Loco location tells us the letter "was written from the 'dunkin doughnuts' owner was actually a joke written from one of our friends." Carry on with doughnut eating free from fear, everyone!
