Happy Year of the Snake! It's the Lunar New Year and there have been celebrations around the world. The big parades in New York City are later this week (see below), but you can also start celebrating now by eating foods with auspicious meaning.

We put together a list of delicious Chinese foods that are traditionally eaten during the celebration. While whole fish might seem like something too elaborate to eat by yourself, foods like lettuce, Shanghai-style egg roll and oranges are also symbolic.

On Saturday, February 16, there's a parade in Flushing, Queens. Then, on Sunday, February 17, Chinatown has its big parade at 1 p.m.
