A new year is here, a new day has dawned, and your intestines have reset themselves to Zero in anticipation of all the exciting foodstuffs you'll be shoving down your gullet before the sun sets on 2015. To start you off, the city's got a few grub-centric events around town—here's where to eat this week.

On Tuesday, the Court Tree Collective in Carroll Gardens is throwing a guided cheese tasting, helmed by cheesemonger Pam Brewer. Brewer will teach you how to taste and differentiate eight cheeses, with wine provided for some palate cleansing. The event runs from 7 to 9 p.m. and costs $38 to attend; you can purchase your ticket online.

Also on Tuesday, Symphony Space on the Upper West Side will host Brooklyn food masters as part of their Five Boroughs Food Talk Series to discuss "Brooklyn as a Brand." Brooklyn Flea co-founder Eric Demby, Butter & Scotch co-owner Allison Kave, Edible Brooklyn EIC Rachel Wharton and esrtwhile Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz will all be on hand to discuss the artisanal-ification of the borough, with Every Day with Rachel Ray food features editor Gabriella Gershenson acting as moderator. And on Friday, "good food" community Foodstand is hosting a Food Swap Soirée at their Flatiron headquarters. Show up with locally sourced homemade goods (minimum of 10, maximum of 40) and swap them for...other locally sourced goods. There'll also be drinking and schmoozing with your fellow swappers.
